Hey gang, Peter and i would like to wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July! This weeks episode is filled with lots of news, commentary and user feed back! Yay! so we just didn’t book anb interview this week and just decided to keep it simple:) I haven’t got much to say about the podcast other than “we have a few more to go until our hiatus” so, enjoy it as much as we enjoy making them:)

Someone asked in this episode about a good USB WI-FI adapter for Linux. I have been using a Hawking HWU8DD with much success. It is dish-shaped and can be aimed to get better reception than most USB adapters. I get over twice the range with it versus my internal notebook card adapter. The Hawking has worked out of the box for me in Ubuntu Hardy Herron and Gutsy Gibbon. The ZyDAS chipset it uses has been supported since kernel 2.6.18 using the zd1211rw module. Besides Ubuntu, I’ve run it in many other distributions with no problems whatsoever.
I am thrilled to see that Amazon and Best Buy are selling pre-boxed Ubuntu software. 60 days of Canonical support will give new users one less reason to try Ubuntu. Being able to get the software in a store will also remove the hurdle having to download an ISO file and burn it to disk. It’s a smart move to mainstream Linux and I hope it cashes in on user frustration with Vista.
You guys have a great show. The audio quality and content is outstanding. The Wordpress site you have also looks really sharp. Hope you keep up the good work.

Peter,
I recall you saying that you use the Thunderbird client to access your MS Exchange server. I have been using Evolution for the same purpose, however, since we run Exchange 2007 in my office, the best I can do is to connect via IMAP, since the current version of Evolution doesn’t directly support Exchange. My question is, “How do you access your exchange calendar via T-bird?” I rely on the calendar feature heavily, and say what you like about the “big bad evil empire”, but between MS Outlook on the desktop and my Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone, the calendar, contacts, and email syncing works much better than what I can get out of Evolution. On a positive note (for Evolution) I see that the dev team is working on a new release that will support Exchange 2007.
Any thoughts on how to best sync my calendar using Ubuntu… now?
Also, a few weeks ago I remember you saying you had trouble accessing a Truecrypt encrypted Windows partition from Ubuntu on the smae physical machine. I had a similar problem using Truecrypt between Windows and Ubuntu. In my case, I encrypted a data partition (not the system drive) using Windows, then I couldn’t read it when I booted Ubuntu. My problem was that I installed the new version of Truecrypt (v6.0a) under Windows and I was trying to read the partition using v5.0a with Ubuntu. After upgrading to the latest Trucrypt for Ubuntu, everything worked fine.
