More About Me...

Hi, my name is Harlem and this is the companion website for the Fresh Ubuntu Podcast. I am the host of the show and along with my co-host Peter, we do a somewhat weekly account about anything that has to do with Ubuntu. Thanks for dropping by the site. Feel free to have a look around and click on some of the great links on the site. Enjoy!

Another Tid-Bit...

One last thing - I started the podcast in July of 2006, and we have been going strong since then. Initially, it started as my first forays into linux, but now has grown up a bit by delivering the best news, how-to's, and tutorials - all with a bent towards the Ubuntu distro. Subscribe for free using iTunes or other podcast receiver. Thanks again for dropping by!

Ogg File - Episode 49 - Tape Hiss

Here is this weeks Fresh Ubuntu Podcast ready for consumption. This week Peter and I went through a lot of news stories and happenings in the Ubuntu world. And believe me there was quite a bit. Both Peter and I are gearing up for the holidays and it has been hectic since the day after Thanksgiving. I hope it went well at your households and also hope that you didn’t get trampled on while shopping on black Friday! Just a heads up for all you listeners and readers of this particular blog. The fresh Ubuntu Podcast will be going on hiatus til the new year begins. Most likely we will begin recording the first week of january and the podcast will be posted by the second week of January. Hopefully I will have lots of stories to tell when I get back. I’ll be heading to Dubai if I have any listeners leave a message for a nice place to eat:) Hope you all enjoy the podcast and hope to speak with you all again soon.

FYI on Show 49 ABC not Linux friendly segment:

I know a bit about the abc.com site and their tv show playback. Unfortunately for us Linux users. abc.com now uses a proprietary player by Move Networks, claiming higher video quality over varying network speeds. It is not a flash player. You need to dowload the player to your computer. The last time I checked, it required Windows XP with Service Pack 2, or Vista or Mac. It is DRM protected content, so no Linux. nbc and cbs still both use adobe flash on their web sites, so those sites are usable on Linux.

  2. Harlem Says:

It is rather unfortunate that DRM rears its ugly head over and over again. Especially when innocent people just want to watch a show that is freely available. Also, the new version of flash player 9 supports HD now so I don’t buy the higher video quality argument, at least not now. Thanks for leaving a comment Dave and thanks for listening to the podcast. Have a Happy Holidays:)
