More About Me...

Hi, my name is Harlem and this is the companion website for the Fresh Ubuntu Podcast. I am the host of the show and along with my co-host Peter, we do a somewhat weekly account about anything that has to do with Ubuntu. Thanks for dropping by the site. Feel free to have a look around and click on some of the great links on the site. Enjoy!

Another Tid-Bit...

One last thing - I started the podcast in July of 2006, and we have been going strong since then. Initially, it started as my first forays into linux, but now has grown up a bit by delivering the best news, how-to's, and tutorials - all with a bent towards the Ubuntu distro. Subscribe for free using iTunes or other podcast receiver. Thanks again for dropping by!

User Feedback on Hardy Heron

Episode 67 - Ogg Vorbis File

It’s been a week now on since the release of Hardy Heron and the user reviews are pouring in! Lots of good feedback from listeners are providing me and the listeners as well about the tribulations and the pitfalls of the new LTS release of Ubuntu. Mostly positive feedback from my listeners but there was an undercurrent of surprise and even disappointment with the Ubuntu developers. Still, as always, I give them a bit of leeway on this. Just as my guest/co-host Jason Watkins stated in the podcast, “for what I pay for Ubuntu, I will cut them some slack and let a couple of things slide”. I, for one, agree and for the most part the issues will resolve itself in a matter of weeks if not days. Here are the links although not necessarily in any order so I must apologize in advance.

Hardy Heron Release

Episode 66 Ogg Vorbis file

So, the day we podcast, mind you this is a day mostly set in stone (unless either Peter or I have something better to do, ahem) and the day the “most significant” Ubuntu release ever falls on the same day! Coincidence? Perhaps - I on the other hand prefer to think that the “most significant” Ubuntu related “things” are happening because some cosmic alignment of epic proportions is taking place. Hey folks, this is too good to make up so I’m going with it. Now on to the podcast, we experienced a little “teknical” difficulty as Peter’s connection dropped and the bandwidth allocation seemed to lower suddenly at the same time. This doesn’t make for easy listening or editting for that matter. But, I believe everything turned out ok so I won’t harp about it any more. After all, it’s very rare to have a cosmic alignment and have everything go perfectly. We also tried to do live streaming through Talkshoe.com and I think we might have a lot of the kinks worked out and production should get easier with every passing episode. More on that later. Before I go any further I would like to officially announce the grand unveiling of the new Fresh Ubuntu Podcast Logo! Yet another cosmic convergence! It was designed using the most excellent open source vector graphics program called Inkscape, which makes life so much more easier since th latest release came out. Of course, as we mentioned in the podcast this is a rolling logo in that it could change as distributions are released, so look forward to that. So here is a picture of it:

New logo, yay!!

OK, Sorry that I am taking so long with the shownotes, it’s just that I put the podcast together last night and I just did’nt have it in me to write the shownotes. But, on the other hand this show doesn’t really need shownotes (I kid, I kid, lol). Not surprisingly by the title of the show we had a special guest on this week. This time we have an international guest who hails from “across the pond” as Peter put it, Alan Pope of the UBuntu UK podcast, among other things. We had a great time putting the show together and Alan made for a great interview and added depth to the news segment. Also, guess who called in with a suggestion and I’ll just reiterate it here, he’s looking for a tech-y, geek-y type job. Well, the links are below so enjoy the podcast.

Fresh Ubuntu Wallpaper From the Screencasters!

Well, I feel validated today. I have a listener who sent in a very nice present for listeners of the show and it’s not even Christmas yet! Richard, one of the fellas who bring us great tutorials about Inkscape, sent me some very beautiful cutomized wallpaper. They are rendered at 1280X1024, go ahead and download them at you leisure and let me know how you like them by sending me a comment or leaving a message on my Grand Central button on the right or leaving a message on my Skype Voice Mail under freshubuntu. Here is a look at the artwork below:)

I guess it is that time again, I wasn’t quite ready for it this time though. Don’t get me wrong, I was ready in the sense that I had all my articles and stuff I was going to talk about. I just wasn’t feeling like starting today, I was just sort of feeling blah as the title says. One observation I am seeing is that the show is coming along pretty good, seems to me that we are picking up more listeners every week, and we are at our highest subscribership to date. Which pleases me, but also worries me at the same time. Well, here is to more continued success in the future.
