I promise I will only post one more show about Gutsy....Really! This week we had to give our thoughts on our installations of Gutsy and how we like it. As we mentioned in a prior podcast that we were downloading and installing while we were podcasting. Well, this week we would like to give you our first impressions on Gutsy. Meaning, we want to let you in on what we liked and what we didn't like. We, not surprisingly, had a lot to talk about and the podcast is a little long. I think I clocked it at just over one hour. That is a new record for us breaking a previous record of 45 minutes. We cover the whole gamut of things one could cover in release segment from the interface and the login sound file to the writable NTFS drives by default. We also are critical about a few things, notably, why they left out the compiz manager. One last note, i didn't get any new music this week, it is all recycled so there you have it, the next episode in a nutshell. Oh, and one last thing, from the oops I did it again department, I pronounced asterisk incorrectly, should be pronounced asterisk not asterix:) I think Peter blogged about this, too. Oh well, such is life. Lastly, next weeks podcast we are going to have some very special guests, namely Jay Watkins from the "in the trenches" podcast and David Yates from the "lottalinuxlinks" podcast. Love the podcast. Peter mentioned a problem with his screen resolution. I installed Gutsy as fresh install and after that I had that problem. I was surprised to be able to fix it simply. I went to System Administration Screen and Graphics, when you click on the model it will open up a drop down i chose Generic LCD Panel 1440X900 and set the resolution to the same. It worked immediately.

I installed Gutsy on a Toshiba Tablet R15 laptop and for my surprise the tablet feature on the laptop didn't work with the pen. But the funny thing was Ubuntu 7.04 did work with the pen. Do you guys have any ideas how to get the tablet laptop working fully.

i just subscribed to this podcast because I was looking for an Ubuntu-specific podcast, and I think I have found the best one yet.
I wonder if either of you came across this particular problem with Gutsy. I have installed it on my Gateway laptop, and after the first boot, it seemed to work quite well, but I had noticed that on future boots, I would get a black screen after the login is complete. Worse still, this is a random problem, and I never knoew just when it's going to happen.
As I am not very well versed in the ways of the CLI as I used to be (I once owned an Amiga, and I virtually lived there lol), I have decided that right now, unless there is some compelling reason to go from Feisty to Gutsy--like Feisty has been removed from the repositories--I'm staying with Feisty until this problem is solved.

I just noticed this also and it does happen randomly. I am running it on a laptop and every now and again the screen will go blank after powering on. It's as if there is no power going to the laptop screen. I'll ask if Peter knows how to handle this and probably mention it in a future podcast.
Screen/Graphics problem laptop issue
To all F.U. listeners:
I also have the strange either A. screen powers off problem 'randomly' or else, B. the battery indicator shows up on my laptop's screen and either way, this really disturbs me! This is all on my Gateway MX6214 laptop running Ubuntu 9.10.
Have any of you found a solution for either of these problems? I suspect it has something to do with the Intel on-board video driver (I have 945GM chipset). All I know is that the Intel driver on Linux (even w/ Ubuntu) has had strange issues.
