Shownotes
So, we had set it up to have guest podcasters on the show to talk about gutsy and how we liked it. I will tell you that we did get a bunch of us togetrher to talk about stuff and beleive me, you want to talk long winded, we must of went on about gutsy for a good hour and a half! Thinking that all was well, I saved the recording and went about my way feeling a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Rightfully so, since we, and by we I mean Peter, gathered some great guests. Namely David Yates from the Lotta Linux Links podcast and a Jason Watkins from the In the Trenches Podcast. Us four and no more were spouting off such beautiful prose and gutsy that would bring even the most hardcore linux user to tears. But, and this is a big but, the audio that I had to work with was awful. It was literally a jumbled mess. Peoples sentences were mangled and words in sentences were randomly placed in odd places as to make sentences seem like incoherent babble. Sadly, I had to abandon this recording and replace it with this one which is not bad really. It's is just the disappointment of losing all that wonderful data:( So I hope you enjoy this podcast:

Harlem, You mentioned
Harlem,
You mentioned having to reboot your desktop repeatedly
to get your sound working. I had the same problem. I think
what's happening is your primary sound device is alternating
between your sound blaster card and your onboard sound. It's
a fairly common problem. There's a config file you can change
so that it will always pick your sound blaster card. When I
get home I'll check my Linux notes and let you know what worked
for me. TS
Harlem, According to
Harlem,
According to my hand written notes from last summer (my old computer is gone) you want to look at the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file. I added two lines to the bottom of that file.
options snd_ca0106 index=0
options snd_intel8x0 index=1
Obviously change the snd_XXX's to what you see in the lspci output.
Good Luck. I know that problem annoyed me for a while. TS

Hi Guys.
I would like to know if you two are making your own Ubuntu-based distro at any point in the future? Perhaps it would be Gutsy based and would go from there.
Maybe if you do make one put it on distrowatch for all eyes to see.
Just my two cents and a quick thought,
Tom Anderson

I would like to start off by saying, how great of a podcast you guys have. I would like to thank you for helping me on the tablet issue. Thanks to you guys I am a bigger fan in Linux!! After you guys helped me with that problem I have one other problem. I have a Toshiba R15 Tablet running Gutsy and once in a while when I restart, log off, or shut down my laptop I would get a black screen. The only way to get out of this would be to do a hard shut down. Do you have any ideas on preventing me from doing a hard shoot down every time this happens.
Thanks a lot,
P.S. I am another user who wants itunes on Linux.

Hey Tim,
I ran lspci and sure enough it detected two sound devices. My SB Live card and the on board sound device. Nice catch! I'll wait to hear from you before I do anything drastic:)
