Here is the 3rd podcast of the new year (2008) for those who have been following. This week we/I took a look at the ASUS EEE PC and gave a small, but, I believe a semi-thorough review of this tiny little PC with a lot of heart.
To summarize, I started off with a review of some of the features of the machine and went in depth into the startup and boot up process. I didn't mention this in the podcast but I did a little test of my own to see what the boot time was compared to Vista. And to my surprise, the boot up procedure of the ASUS was roughly 30 second from pushing the start button. Now this varied according to God knows what as I started it up 3 consecutive times in a row and got some minor fluctuations in times. The second time I booted it up I saw that it took roughly 10s longer but by the third time it was back down to the original startup time of 28s. The shutdown took on average 18s without a lot of fluctuation in the process. Other than that I give you a sneak peak at the user interface and some of the delightful things you can do with this PC. I tested the 4GB model but they will soon be out if they aren't aleady with a 8GB model. One thing for sure this little machine can use is a little bigger drive but then again it would add to the price. Overall, I gave it two thumbs up. Meanwhile, we talked about the latest happenings in Ubuntuland and Peter threw in a tech tip and script that he has been using to tweet on the command line.
