Listener Feedback

Just some things that bugged me in the recent episode, one of you kept saying "Lucid Linux" instead of the correct "Lucid Lynx"(!!).

Also, that option of network "shared to other computers". That's been available from at least 9.4 Jaunty. Dunno if it works properly there, but just saying.

Hi Larry, hi Tom - and hi Harlem, hi Peter,  I just listened to your co-production podcast episode of GoingLinux and Freshubuntu.  I am listening to both podcasts and enjoy both. So I found it a good idea that you got together. I will continue to listen to both podcasts and I imagine you will continue be a good complement to each other.  Thanks and keep up the good work!

I bought a second drive to put Ubuntu on.

I find problems here and there with Ubuntu. Trying to move files into one of the sub directories.  It has that little arrow and if you keep your cursor there too long, it will open up that directory and you'll have to wait for it to open.  I did a reinstall of Ubuntu and it didn't recognize the Broadcom WiFi hardware the second time.  It worked well and was recognized in v9.04.  I had it look for hardware but it was not on the list.  Just what it found last time.  Firewire wasn't on there either.  I have looked at some 720P videos and the CPU is up around 95%.  Next I exit all of my applications and the CPU is still at 95%.  I checked out what is using a lot of CPU using TOP and found it was X11 at 70+% for the remainder of the session.  I have also noticed that there is a program tnat indexes your files and takes up a lot of CPU while doing that.  It takes several minutes to run.

I like bookmarking my server in the file manager so I can access files anytime.  You will see more software to install if you use Synaptic to install new software.

Fedora 12 recognized my Broadcom WiFi on bootup of the demo for the first time.  But then so does Puppy Linux.

Hi,

I just found your podcast and website, and it looks great.

I'd love to start at the beginning; do you make all of your podcasts available somewhere?

Thank you,

Michael

Dear peter,

I am writing to you to see if you can announce the opening of my
website, Frostbite Systems. Frostbite Systems is an online company that
builds and sells pre-installed Linux computers. The distros we install
on our computers are Ubuntu, Mandriva, Opensuse, Fedora, Sabayon and
Linux Mint.

We will also install others upon request.

We are open to suggestions for other products that the community would
like to see offered. By supporting Frostbite Systems, you will also be
supporting the distro you have installed on the computer! With each
purchase made, Frostbite Systems will donate a portion of the proceeds
to the distribution that the customer chooses to have installed.

We are also offering blind optimized computers for blind and low vision
users. We use Ubuntu and install the Orca screen reader and configure it
to work properly, so when a blind or low vision user receives their
Frostbite System, Orca will immediately work out of the box.   Being a
blind user myself, I understand that it can be frustrating to have to
depend on a sighted helper to get a new computer configured.  We will
configure Orca to work with it's optimal settings.

Please contact us and let us know what we can do to meet your needs as a
member of the community. Thank you for your time and for all your hard
work.  I'm a big fan of the show, keep up the great work!

Truly,

Jonathan  Nadeau
