I thought you might like to read this article

This thought hit home when I was working to fix a sound issue on my
computer, although the seeds had been sown quite some time ago with my
upgrade to Ubuntu 7.04. My concern is not about FOSS philosophy, but
rather about updates and version releases.

Alas, there are updates that break simple things. About two weeks ago
Kubuntu (Ubuntu with the K Desktop Environment) popped-up and told me
that new updates were available. As usual, I clicked on the icon, ran
the updates, and didn’t give a second thought. At least not until my
audio was not coming out clearly as it had before.

Yet another article you may be interested in.

I am thinking the unthinkable…..I am considering changing from Ubuntu
8.10 for my desktop to Debian 5. I have been running the Debian 5 Lenny
candidate for awhile and have bee very pleased with the stability and
features. It actually functions and acts more like the distribution I
need and work on than Ubuntu. Not so say that Ubuntu is bad, just that I
typically do not need or use the latest applications. I mainly work on
my Linux desktop for about 60 hours a week. So I really need something I
can count on. Again, not that Ubuntu has let me down, it has never
really crashed on me but I do struggle with bugs from time to time. I
use my GUI desktop to work from as I manage Linux servers, either Ubuntu
or CentOS.

Shownotes

Sorry that I am taking so long with the shownotes, it's just that I put the podcast together last night and I just didn't have it in me to write the shownotes. But, on the other hand this show doesn't really need shownotes (I kid, I kid, lol). Not surprisingly by the title of the show we had a special guest on this week. This time we have an international guest who hails from "across the pond" as Peter put it, Alan Pope of the UBuntu UK podcast, among other things. We had a great time putting the show together and Alan made for a great interview and added depth to the news segment. Also, guess who called in with a suggestion and I'll just reiterate it here, he's looking for a tech-y, geek-y type job. Well, the links are below so enjoy the podcast.

I just read on Digg about Ubuntus supposed phallic symbol! To be honest with you I haven't read the post yet, and I may update the blog as soon as I do. My initial thoughts are, "hmmm...I realize in some polls that 98% of linux users are male but should we resort to this to attract a more female user base?
