Hello Harlem & Peter,

A few episodes ago Peter mentioned using Likewise Open to connect a Linux system to a Microsoft AD server. Can you please elaborate on this in a future episode or provide some links in your show notes? Love the podcast, keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Kevin

re: The LLL Podcast going Ogg Vorbis only

It's a little disingenuous to say "the next thing to do is to actively block Internet Explorer" because that's different. The point of LLL going Ogg-only was to make it easier for those running Linux to listen to the podcast, because that's his audience. Yes, Dave speaks into a microphone because he wants to--but his podcast is actually geared to people who want to learn more about the world they've jumped into.

Fresh Ubuntu is more about putting your toes in the pool. LLL is very much about having dived in. It probably doesn't make sense to go vorbis-only for Fresh Ubuntu, and probably won't for a long time.

That being said: Please don't use song clips where the copyright's owned by the RIAA. "Tom Sawyer" by Rush is published on two record labels, both of which are [now owned by] Universal Music Group, which is part of the RIAA. You will probably end up having to pay royalties for that...not what you wanted.

Creative Commons or Public Domain music (or custom-written stuff) is what's best for licensing; opsound.org or ccmixter.org are two places to start.

Also, try gpodder. It will transcode to mp3 unless you tell it your device supports Ogg Vorbis natively. I haven't tried it (my devices all support Vorbis, hence why I purchased them); Dave says it will work, however.

"Microsoft's Internet Explorer's market share is absolutely falling. The question is, by how much?
"I've reported before that Internet Explorer (IE) drops 5 percent market share points each year, while Mozilla Firefox gains 5 percentage points per year. But what is becoming increasingly clear is that IE's market share may be dropping more precipitously than previously reported, falling to 60 percent share in June 2009 instead of the 68 percent share expected"
